Pisco Portón y Tanteo Jalapeño Tequila por Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo is a government and school holiday which celebrates Mexico's win over the French army in 1862.  This Battle of Puebla (Batalla de Puebla) is not to be confused with Mexico's Independence Day.  What began as an observance of a somewhat insignificant event has grown tremendously over the years, particularly in areas of a greater Mexican-American concentration. 

Eventually, Peru began to celebrate the holiday and we can only imagine the vibrant colors, the dancing and the passing of the Pisco.  It has to be rich!  Hence, we include a pisco ("bird") for your consideration.

Located in the Ica Valley of Peru (foothills of the Andes) resides the oldest distillery in the Americas, Hacienda La Caravedo.  They've been there since 1684.  Portón, in particular, has been around for forty years.  It is made with grapes, which is the norm.  However, water is not added. 

The result is an award-winning, clear spirit which, is versatile and a smooth sip.  Therefore, it is excellent when mixed.  Your choice.

  • (1) 750ml Bottle of Tanteo Jalapeño
  • (1) 11.75 Oz Bottle of Organic Golden Light Blue Agave
  • (1) Lime Juicer bearing the Tanto Logo
  • (1) Jigger bearing the Tanto Logo

Tanteo Jalapeño Tequila is comprised of the most carefully sourced ingredients.  For our taste test, we were unable to find others to try this agave tequila.  Why? 

The peppers.  Everyone was afraid.  The nose is overwhelmingly jalapeño.  But, we weren't ascared.  Well, in retrospect, we were.  This is why we tried it with Clamato and while we would love Clamato if it weren't for the celery taste, this was pretty stinkin' good. 

While the peppers were a definite presence, they were not overwhelming.  They didn't burn.  It's incredible.
